Starting with release 10 of Microsoft Dynamics GP you can integrate Dynamics GP and Office SharePoint Server 2007 or what is commonly referred to as SharePoint or MOSS. SharePoint is a separate Microsoft solution, but is integrated with Dynamics GP. There are several key benefits to using SharePoint with Dynamics GP including search and enhanced reporting. This article will focus on implementing workflow functionality using Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 and Dynamics GP.
I think everyone would agree on the value of using workflow as it enables key personnel to make the right decisions at the right time. In addition, it allows the system to work for you and drive employee action instead of employees always having to remember to complete specific tasks. Dynamics GP contains several standard workflows that fit this mold. They are:
General Ledger Batch Approval
Receivables Batch Approval
Payables Batch Approval
Credit Limit Override in Sales Order Processing
Sales Quote Approval
Purchase Order Approval
In addition to these standard out of the box workflows we can assist you in creating custom workflows using the functionality in SharePoint and Dynamics GP. These custom workflows can be used to automate other tasks and processes that are critical to your organization.
The final key benefit to the workflow process is accountability of task ownership. SharePoint and Dynamics GP will keep a record of the tasks and the person assigned to for each task allowing you to identify bottlenecks and improve the process.
We often tout the benefits of integration within the Microsoft family of products, and I think the SharePoint and Microsoft Dynamics GP Workflow integration is another excellent example. As I mentioned there are other ways to use the power of SharePoint with Dynamics GP which we will examine in upcoming articles or on our blog.
