Important Changes to Dynamics GP 2013 Workflow

Posted on: April 18, 2014 | By: Jim Bertler | Microsoft Dynamics GP

The SharePoint based workflow engine was introduced to Dynamics GP a few releases ago.  However, the SharePoint based engine will be phased out and a new Dexterity engine will be used.  It will be a phased release with the first wave due out in the first half of 2014.  The Purchase Order Approval Workflow will be replaced and a new workflow for Purchase Requisitions will be added.  We are excited about this as the new workflow engine will be easier to support.

Starting in the second half of 2014 Microsoft will introduce the second phase which will replace more of the SharePoint based workflow types that are available today.  The new workflow system which is based on Dexterity will give users the ability to access workflows from the Desktop Client and the Web Client.

The new Dexterity based system will allow users to create workflow conditions as well as the ability to setup workflows to receive customized e-mails at various points through the process.  These e-mails could be informational that a task has completed or provide data on actions that need to be taken.  The system can be setup to allow users that don’t access Dynamics GP the ability to approve, reject or delegate tasks.

The last and most exciting part is that the Workflow Engine will allow developers to extend the workflow functionality into other areas of the system.
