Financial Reporter – Data Mart Refreshing

If you are running Financial Reporter and you are noticing that the numbers are not reporting as expected you may need to re-build the data mart databased.  This is usually the case if you restore a non-production UAT/DEV environments with PROD data or sometimes adding financial dimensions or main accounts can cause the data mart not to fully integrate.

The rebuild process is something you as an end-user can easily do, especially if you are running the latest Financial Reporter binaries, see my previous blog on determining what version you are running and how to update to the latest Financial Reporter build.

To reset the data mart

You have to be in the Financial Reporter designer to initiate the rebuild process. To start, click on Tools in the menu bar and then select the Reset Data Mart… Then tick the ‘Reset data mart’ box and provide a reason, you have three options to choose from (Missing or incorrect date, Restore database and other). The options are only for reporting purposes on why the data mart had to be reset and their selection has no effect on the reset.

Typically, you do not need to tick the ‘Clear users and companies box’.

It is a good idea to rebuild the data mart during non-working hours as reports will not able to get generated. Not an issue if things aren’t working, just something to be aware of.

When you acknowledge the above message and continue, an integration status screen will pop-up. You can monitor the progress here.  This can take from minutes to hours, depending on how much data you have in your GL tables.

That is all there is to it. Once upon a time, this had to be executed by Microsoft, but as Dynamics 365 matured additional features have been added and this is something you can now do yourself as an end-user.
