Logan Consulting Process Flow and Narrative Approach

At the recent QAD Midwest Users Group Conference (MWUG) in Lombard, IL; Darrell Finney of Fintek Consulting re-enforced to the keynote speaker audience the need to bridge the communication gap between IT and the business. He reviewed useful tools such as SIPOC’s and Swim Lane Process Flow Mapping, among others.
Logan Consulting has stressed the value of the Swim Lane Process Mapping approach for years, as it is a very effective tool to document current and future state processes, and discuss and confirm those processes with all parties within an organization. They are also effective training and implementation tools as well, as Darrell emphasized.
Additionally, Logan Consulting stresses the value of Process Narratives to support the Swim Lane Process Flows. A Process Narrative is a supporting Microsoft Word Document, with commentary linked back to each step in the Process Flow. The narrative provides additional detail on setup required, process exceptions, and specific areas of focus for that step. It is an effective link between the Process Flow document and the eventual detailed Work Instructions or User Procedures that need to be documented for the steps in the process.
It was encouraging to hear Darrell stress the use of similar tools to the QAD community at MWUG!
