Setting up Batch Attribute Pricing in D365 for Finance and Operations

While supporting a Process Manufacturer I was thrown back into the world of debating whether a product or a product master should be created, should smart numbering be used, and how the customer wanted to stock inventory.  Naturally the process manufacturer opted to utilize batch tracking to leverage the batch attribute functionality in D365.  Batch attributes are setup in Inventory Management and you can set them up to be decimals, percentages, integers, enumerated values, and, ranges.  Any combination can be created and any batch can contain one or many attributes.

One feature of D365 that this customer could use was the Attribute-Based Pricing models.  On occasion, this feature can be overlooked during a new implementation, but it can be very useful even after going live.  The setup for attribute based pricing lives in the procurement module, and this is the only area of D365 where you can use this type of calculated pricing.   Setting up the attribute based pricing model is simple.  Like I mentioned previously, the setup lives in procurement and sourcing.

Once you are in this screen, you will click “New” to create a new Attribute Based Price

1.      You will receive an equation element

2.      You will need to select an equation element type

a.      A transaction Quantity – Purchase Quantity

b.      Unit Price- Purchase Price

c.      Batch Attribute – Actual – What the value is

d.      Constant- If you need a value that is constant in your equation

e.      Batch Attribute – Target – Do you need to calculate based off a standard value

3.      A Batch Attribute and/or Constant

Once the pricing data is configured, all it takes is an equation, and your pricing should begin calculating on inbound inventory.  Again, this was a setup that I wanted to review since some customers forget about this functionality.
