QAD EE Multi-Domain Implementations and Complex Data Conversion Management

Posted on: May 30, 2017 | By: Tim Lovely | QAD Financials, QAD Manufacturing, QAD Business Process, QAD Distribution

With many multi-national QAD EE implementations, the global design leads to a multi-domain model. QAD EE has many more controls and greatly improved functionality over other ERP’s and even prior versions of QAD. This additional control and functionality also requires additional data setup and management of not only the data, but the sequence in which the data is loaded into QAD EE to support a multi-domain model.

Logan Consulting has embedded great focus on defining static and master data standards at the beginning of any upgrade or implementation project. Once defined and documented, a detailed checklist must be managed for all types of data across all domains, entities, and sites.

As a real world example, Logan Consulting is nearing completion of a QAD EE implementation for a public multi-national medical device company. This company has three worldwide operational domains, multiple worldwide non-operational (financial only) domains, and regional and worldwide consolidation domains. In order to manage the complexity of assembling the data, facilitating business reviews of the data, approving the load files, loading the data, and approving the loads of all data; detailed tracking is required.

Central management and a single documented source of the truth for a detailed checklist is also critical. Logan Consulting uses a centralized Sharepoint site for each client project to manage this type of critical project document. All Project Team members on the Logan Consulting and client side utilize this tool as part of the upgrade.

Once the detailed data conversion checklist is executed in several Mock Conversions and vetted out in one or more Conference Room Pilots, the checklist can be adjusted as needed and used to support a successful conversion to Production.
