One of the best ways to determine which ERP system is the best fit for your growing business is to do your research on ERP Implementation Partners, read up on case studies and start researching different systems to help determine which system could best fit your businesses individual goals, pain points and future plans. You want a system that can grow with you, now hold you back, which is why choosing the right system is crucial – especially since ERP projects can be a big investment of time and money. Below is a case study outlining how QAD helped a leading supplier and co-packer of food products for the cereal industry improve inventory tracking and better analyze their results. Managing your inventory effectively is a huge part of any manufacturing or wholesale distribution business and unfortunately, doing it ineffectively can result in a loss of money in your stocked inventory.

The Client: Leading supplier and co-packer of food products for the cereal and snack mix industry. It is quickly growing and expanding from a single sight operation to a five sight operation.

The Opportunity: The client’s five production facilities needed to be integrated into a single system to allow better coordination of schedule and supply chain options. Most of the systems currently in use were designed departmentally and did not allow for collaboration. These simple spreadsheet programs caused a lack of integration and functionality and gave major challenges for tracking inventory and evaluation of operational results. QAD MFG/PRO was selected as the ERP package to be integrated.

The Solution: Logan Consulting provided the project management expertise, business process and QAD knowledge and proven implementation methodology to implement MFG/PRO. All functional areas including manufacturing, distribution and financials were implemented in four months across the client’s 5 sites.

As a food producer and co-packer, the client was required to implement several unique solutions to satisfy the requirements of their major customers. Lot tracking, detailed shipment requirements and seamless integration with key business partners who were both customers and suppliers provided challenges. To ensure the client would be self-sufficient when the consultants left, customized, function specific training materials and systems documentation were developed.

Logan Consulting handled all levels of the MFG/PRO Implementation project from executive level project management to business process design expertise at the shop floor level, and continues to support the client in their unique initiatives to this day.

 The Results:

  • Improved inventory accuracy and visibility
  • Improved knowledge and visibility to the entire supply chain
  • Provided timely and meaningful operational results
  • More precise management and scheduling of production lines and detailed data regarding throughput in the production line
